For the Amazing Animals Project, we were given the assignment to choose a living creature that fascinates us and appropriate to draw as an encyclopedia illustration

intended to inform readers on factual data, an iconic corporate logo intended to represent an ethos, stand out from the crowd, and perform at small sizes, a storybook illustration that uses metaphor and transformation intended to spark the imagination and elicit delight, and a gestural illustration intended to convey an animal’s true essence and energy.

I applied skills such as abstraction, gesture drawing, value drawing, texture rendering, and metaphorical thinking through an iterative process that emphasizes how technique and media work in harmony to create an aesthetic and support a communication goal.

For my project I chose to do a butterfly.
